NYFW: Day Two

Seems like some of the designers were channeling their inner Beetle Juice swag, by incorporating black and white stripes in their designs. Stripes never get old by the way. In my opinion, it is a textile pattern that will go with any print. Still, as always, each designer distinguised themselves to provide a visiual buffet for the next big trends this coming Spring/ 2014. Just don't say Bettle Juice three times.

The trends I am seeing so far:
  • Red
  • White on White
  • Bold Geometric shapes
  • Ruffles
  • Stripes
  • Soft hints of lace
Color Palette:
  • Red,White, Teal, Baby Blue, electric Blue, soft pink and nudes
Make up:
  • Plum colored lipstick
  • Orange lipstick
  • Natural/Nude

FALLish Ways 2013: MIU MIU

There is always an exciting feeling when fall is just around the corner. Perhaps it is because all the great holidays are approaching or because clothes are just more fun in the fall. I look forward in layering my clothes and wearing textures, patterns with unexpected pop of colors. Also, my legging/tights collection seem to grow, which I do not mind at all.

One of my favorite collections for Fall 2013 is that of Miu Miu. Is there anything Miuccia Prada can't do? I love how Miuccia incorporates stripes in her collections. Stripes have become some what a staple print for Miuccia, as she also includes stripes in creations for Prada. We all know Prada Spring 2011 RTW quite well. Miu Miu's collection is refreshing, as it moved away from the typical fall fabrics of tweed and coloroids and allows us to step into a magical world of quilted nylon and Astrakhan.
No wonder these models look like sailor girls who time traveled into the 50's from the victorian era.

Breton Stripes!

Voile Loin!

Seems like summer is not really summer without paying homage to the Breton Stripe. Wearing stripes takes us to a place where sailors once occupied the shores/seas as the aroma of sea salt filled the air. History states that the "Breton Shirt" was the uniform of sailors only. Sailor wore these striped shirts to be spotted if they fell over broad. Also, the 21 stripes represented all of Napoleon's victories.

Leave it to Coco Chanel to find inspiration at the French Riviera for her 1917 Nautical line. She was a designer with vision; one who found beauty and inspiration in the least likey of places. Coco paired a brenton striped shirt with flared trousers, giving us the women who can wear both the pants and the skirt. From this moment on, Breton Stripes have set sail from the shores of the French Riviera into mainstream America allowing us all to feel "Oh So French".

Not up to a Breton shirt? You can still rock the "striped" look with shoes or a handbag.

Sail Away!

The Nautical theme seems to never get old. What is summer without the Red, White and Blue stripes with anchors and gold details? Poly is currently holding a contest "What would you wear to a Boat Party?"

Once upon a time Stripes were considered diabolical. It was used to represent tricksters, prostitues, jokers and the "low class". But thanks to Coco Chanel and Vivienne Westwood, stripes have become part of our fashion statements and decor. If stripes today still meant what they did back in the 13th century i'd be an outcasted clown who probably be put in jail for selling to much striped lollipops, and wearing to many stripes with polkadots and glitter, and Prada would take the "Devil's" Cake for their Spring 2011 stripe collection, which includes shoes too..xoxoox
