 The Philadelphia Fashion Show from Italy

 A Signature Event of the Philadelphia Collection 

 Last year, Francesco Di Maio launched Uomo Moderno magazine in the City of Brotherly Love to showcase the best of Italy’s fashion, décor, music, and contemporary lifestyle. To mark its one year anniversary, Uomo Moderno is inaugurating the New Generation Fashion Tour from Italy, which will kick off in the Big Apple on September 12 with New York Fashion Week Italian Collections. 

 The fashion tour will continue to Philadelphia on September 19 with the Philadelphia Fashion Show from Italy, which will take place in the enclosed courtyard of the Morris House, a national historical monument that was constructed in 1787. The show has been chosen as a signature event by the city’s fashion week, the Philadelphia Collection. 

 At the event, the men’s and women’s collections of young emerging designers from Italy—such as Nico Didonna (haute couture), Rumjungle (casual street), Malph (avant-garde), Lvchino (classic contemporary), Francesca Marotta (bespoke, Sicily Inspired)—will be presented to the live musical accompaniment of Valentina Raffaelli from Tuscany & her band Sunshine Superman. 

 Brandon Boykin and Mychal Kendricks of the Philadelphia Eagles have signed on as star guest models, while Chef Luke Palladino will provide signature antipasti, as well as culinary tips that he has gleaned during his extensive stays in Italy. 

 Guests may choose from two types of tickets. First, the VIP Package starting at 6pm includes the signature antipasti of Chef Luke Palladino, complimentary Prosecco by Altaneve, vodka drinks by Punzoné, Ocóo the beauty drink, backstage shots, press hour, door prize, and an intimate “meet & greet” with the musicians, organizers, star models, and special guests. 

 The second option, General Admission, begins at 7pm and includes signature tastings by Chef Palladino, vodka drinks by Punzoné, door prize, and a complimentary copy of the Uomo Moderno Anniversary Edition. 

 Models provided by @HouseofTalentPA, which is filming the New Generation Fashion Tour from Italy for the second season and airing on WACP and WTVE networks to 5 million homes in October, with TV personality Antoine Johnson.

Here's to another Year: '2014'

A new year is approaching, more quickly then I would want, but why should I be afraid of a "New Year"? A new year to me means a new beginning. A fresh start for any ideas, and goals that were left behind in 2013. Or perhaps any dreams left abandon. I cannot complain at all about this past year(2013). If anything I feel this past year has brought me a few fashion adventures in which I am very thankful for. Adventures I will never forget. One adventure included two of the most awesome fashion shows: Betsey Johnson's and Anna Sui's Spring 2014 collections during New York Fashion Week.

Another fashionable adventure was meeting Dana Maxx during her "Made in NYC" fall/13' press release along side Ben Amun by Issac Manevitz. That same day I visited Polyvore's NYC office.

What a year. I like to reflect back through the year, however, I'm not one to sit and wallow at the things I did not do or should of done. I believe everyone is at a place in their lives because it's their timing to be there. I feel my timing will come, to be able to fully breathe and live in fashion. When will that time be? I'm not certain, but I know giving up will not make it happen. If you have a dream, go for it. Time to dust off those stilettos full of glitter and star dust.

Graffiti Movement

 Once you enter into Philly you get a glimpse of this underground movement that has become a way of life to so many; "this" movement called Graffiti. At first it started as a political statement in the 60's here in Philly. Throughout time people wanted to gain recognition or local "fame" and so the idea of a "tag" was born. A quick tag with your nickname on a wall or stairway was a great way to make people guess or wonder "who is this person?".  Since it's early beginnings in the 60's, graffiti has come along way. Writers have developed their own styles, and a millions ways to write the letter "S" in so many fonts, shapes and sizes.  I grew up seeing my brothers and his friends become well known writers in Philly. It got to the point were people knew who I was because of my brothers and many wanted anything that may contain a bit of their writing style. My brother developed new styles which were copied in so many ways, but he was the original, so people knew where the idea came from.  He even taught me how to "tag" with a step by step guide.

With recognition came many drama and envy, yet my brother stood humble, but did not hesitate to bring out his scripto pen ready to do "battle". Battle is when one writer wants to go head on with another writer on paper, to see who has the best styles. There was another concept that took skills and intricate design; a "piece" or "throw up" as you see below. This idea became an art form in itself, full of color and entangled letters. You almost have to be some kind of maze wizard to decipher the name written. I take pleasure in knowing writers are called "Graffiti Artist" and that people are realizing this is an artform, an expression and it is being appreciated in so many ways. My brothers and their friends are "retired" so to speak, but remind legends in their own right. Love them all for being part of my growing up and being a Philly Girl.

I' ve been in an 80's mood lately, more so then ever. I'm not sure if it is due to Betsey Johnson's Spring 2014 fashion show or maybe getting one year older makes you start to think of childhood things. What ever my excuse reason is for this 80's maddness, I shall embrace it full on.
Back in June I purchased these bright neon pink leggings and they were finally paired with ankle socks from We Love Colors and my starry heels. Such a Jem moment. The heels alone had a lot going on, so going black on black kept my outfit from screaming "victim". Besides going black on black made the colors pop more.

Dream a little Dream

  You know your having a great week when you find an Oscar De La Renta blazer in the thrift shop. The price was $6.95, but because the tag was yellow, I got it for 50% off. Of course I did my happy dance and to top it off it's in green, my favorite color. The blazer is constructed and tailored so well.
That feeling of being luxurious in an Oscar blazer fell upon me..Ahhh! However, that feeling quicky faded when I had to take out the trash and do the dishes. Gotta love life ;)

Tomorrow I will be heading out to NYC for Fashion Week. Many have had the head start of already attending more shows then I can count on my hands, but just being able to attend one/two shows during any season is always a dream. I received an invite to attend Betsey Johnsons SS/14 and Anna Sui SS/14 by Polyvore. I seriously love polyvore so much and I am truly honored and thankful to get these invites. Repeat Offender: Orange Blazer

There goes that orange blazer again. Yeah , i'm guilty of wearing this 50 million times. But i'm not one to purchase new items just for the sake of taking a photo for my blog. There's nothing wrong with going shopping and getting all excited to style your items, but I actually like the task of using what I have already and making a new outfit of it, or try to at least. Lets face it, if I were to purchase a new outfit all the time, i'd be broke with no lattes. So the trick : mix something new with the old.

Happy 4th

FASHIONABLE INDEPENDENCE

Fashion Freedom:  To wear whatever you want and not care about what others may think. So if you want to wear a pink tutu with zebra print leggings, then go ahead why not?  If you care what others think it means you are dressing for people and not for yourself. However, there are policy's(dress codes) in the workfield we do need to go by and that is different.

I often get that "what is she wearing look"?, but since high school I have learned to ignore it and it does not bother me at all. Infact, it's just a confirmation to me that some people are not open minded. You would think since it is "2013" people might have seen it all....YA THINK! Either way, never let weird looks, laughter and rude comments change who you are. Never settle not even for free clothes.

In the garden

Last summer '12 was my first attempt to "grow" a garden. My mom gave me three baby tomato plants and I had no idea what I was doing, but with google and motherly garden advise, the plant got big and produced a good amount of tomatoes. I then planted some cucumber(which only produced one) and basil. 

This year I wanted to start the tomato plants from seed, so in November I ordered all my seedlings and started to prepair for March. Again I am an amature, so google became my garden buddy and through my research I gained confidence knowing my seedlings will grow. Ok....ok, I really lacked some confidence in anticipating an epic fail, because I still purchased two tomatoe plants as back up. I did not want to be without any tomatoes during the summer, so those two tomato plants growing in the photo below is from a farmers market. They grew so fast while my tiny seedlings were going through so much hardship. I have two horror stories with my seedlings, but i'll save those for another time.

Also, I started from seed some cucumbers, mixed bell peppers, basil (dark opal:purple & green), cilantro and mixed lettuce. If you look closely, you can see two yellow cups. Those are two plants from my 30 tomato seedlings. I had so many, I needed to give some away to my mom, sister and co-workers.

 In May

Before spring arrived I knew I wanted to recycle my gril and make it into a big herb pot. Under the grill you see some more yellow cups. Those are tomato plants from seed. Types of tomatoes I am growing: Green zebra striped, Mini yellow, Yellow Jubilee, Heirloom Rainbow Mix and Black cherry..Exciting! This day was also my very first harvest for lettuce.

Hello there, first tomatoes.

You can see how much everything has grown since the first picture. I have a jungle in front of my house because I don't have a yard in the back. The cucumbers are climbing and climbing.

First week in June

First Cucumber. I harvested him last night. 

He was dinner today. He grew so big and now he is:

ALL GONE!

Third week in June and now you see Rosemary, which I purchased at the farmers market. I could not find seed anywhere, and it was a good way to support local farmers.

My babies are growing so big and strong. Today they are bigger then what you see in this photo. I need to transplant this weekend. There you have it, a glimpse of what I enjoy doing on the weekends. It is truly a blessing to be able to grow food from seed. It's hard work, but in the end when you have fresh veggies and herbs on your dinner table , you see the "fruits" of your labor. I Thank GOD for all that he provides for me and my family. Stay tune for more photos in the weeks to come.
